Boxing Day, New Years Day

I came to realise that Boxing Day is a normal day in the US. As I mentioned in a previous Blog most Americans have no idea what Boxing day is let alone celebrate it as part of the Christmas holiday. My son in law went to work as usual, although he expected it to e a pretty quiet day. I went out and went to the local shops which were all open as normal. The local shopping mall was operating business as usual. It all seemed more than a little strange to me having lived in two countries where Boxing Day is a public holiday and most places are closed as a result, apart from the major stores that of course have their big sales.

I also discovered that New Years Day is similar. In both the UK and Australia it is a public holiday and just about everything is closed. Here, it is almost just another day. Once again I went of to the local shops and found the shopping center open although there did not seem to be very many people about. I wandered through most of the shops and was amazed at the lack of people. In fact I have serious doubts whether many or any actually made any money that day there was so little going on.
