Food and Weight

I am certainly appreciating why Americans are often overweight. I monitor my weight religiously every day and I must admit I am struggling to maintain my weight at the levels I am comfortable with. There are so many temptations.

I recently went to breakfast on a Sunday morning with my daughter. We went to a place called iHop. It is a fancy pancake parlour/dinner I suppose. I succumbed to having what they called the ultimate breakfast. It was a full cooked breakfast, sausages, bacon, eggs, toast, hash browns, PLUS a pecan pancake (on a separate plate I must add), covered with maple syrup and cream. Needless to say I had to consume a Lactaid first. I also had a bottomless cup of coffee. This was actually a pot of coffee that they replaced every now and again.

To give you some idea of just how much food there was, I had little to eat the rest of the day (could face anything I was so full) but I still put weight on!
But what is really amazing was the fact that this meal only cost about $6 each. I hate to think what this would cost in Aussie and then probably double that for the UK.

Yesterday we went to Philly and visited the IKEA store. Huge is not the word for it. They are also very clever as they have a restaurant there which is extremely cheap. I had what was called a Philadelphia Steak Sandwich. This was a long role, full of sliced beef, that was encased in melted cheese (another Lactaid). Once again the price was amazing, $5!!!!

This reminded me of one of the fast food outlets here called Arby’s. You get sliced beef (or lamb) similar to what you get with the traditional kebab in Australia, but in a burger role, with curly fries and a drink. It is a sort of less unhealthy fast food and I must admit, quite tasty. They do the usual range of types of “burgers” and combinations.

Wendy’s is another fast food outlet, but according to the adverts “way better than fast food” as their meat has never been frozen and is fresh. I tried one just to see, and whilst it tasted better than the more usual burger, it was still a burger.

The drinks you get with fast food over here are also bigger, with the large being absolutely massive.

No wonder people over eat here.
